Sule Lamido University Secures 5th Place in Inaugural NUGA E-Sports Competition

The Sule Lamido University (SLU) Sports Committee, led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Engr. Professor Nasir Faruk, officially presented a commemorative medal to Vice-Chancellor Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The presentation follows the university’s successful debut at the 27th Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) Games.

The 27th edition of the biennial games, hosted by the University of Jos from November 6 to 16, 2025, featured the historic introduction of E-Sports as a competitive category.

Sule Lamido University was among seven pioneer institutions to participate in the inaugural NUGA E-Sports competition. Representing the university, Haruna Saleh Salisu (EDU/22/PHY/1031) delivered a strong performance, ultimately securing 5th position for the institution.

During the ceremony, Professor Yakasai, FCASSON, MNAE, commended the athlete and the sports committee for putting the university on the national sporting map. The Vice-Chancellor noted that this achievement demonstrates the university’s commitment to embracing modern competitive fields like E-Sports alongside traditional academic excellence.

The presentation was attended by members of the University Sports Committee and other management staff, marking a significant milestone in the university's extracurricular development.
