TETFund Monitoring Committee Inspects ₦4 Billion High-Impact Projects at MOAUM

The Management of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, on Tuesday, 1st September, 2026, received a delegation of the Ministerial Monitoring Committee for the 2025 Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, Special High-Impact Intervention Projects. The team visited the University to assess and validate the progress and quality of ongoing projects, particularly those being executed at the College of Health Sciences.

The delegation, led by the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Sulyman Alabi, comprised Engineer Aliyu Ibrahim and Mr. Giwa Bolakale Sodiq.

Addressing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, the Chairman explained that the visit was undertaken at the directive of the Honourable Minister of Education to verify the level of implementation, quality and compliance of projects being executed under the 2025 TETFund Special High-Impact Intervention.

Professor Alabi said the Committee was also interested in assessing the provision of furniture, laboratory facilities and other critical infrastructure required to enhance effective teaching, learning and clinical training at the University.

Earlier, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Andrea Avershima Ornguze, disclosed that the College was selected in May 2025 as one of 18 Colleges of Health Sciences across the country to benefit from the Federal Government's TETFund Special High-Impact Intervention Projects, with an intervention valued at ₦4 billion.

Professor Ornguze noted that Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University was the only state-owned institution among the beneficiaries, describing the intervention as a significant milestone in the development of healthcare education in Benue State.

According to her, the intervention would substantially strengthen the University's capacity to train highly skilled professionals in key health disciplines, including Dentistry, Medicine and Surgery, MBBS, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science programmes.

Receiving the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, expressed appreciation to the Committee for the visit and to the Federal Government for the intervention.

Professor Alabar described the project as the most significant intervention the University had received since its establishment, stressing that the facilities, when completed, would have a lasting impact on the University's academic programmes and healthcare training capacity.

He disclosed that contractors were already on site and actively executing the various components of the intervention, assuring the monitoring team that the University Management was committed to ensuring that the projects were delivered according to specifications, within the required standards and in line with the objectives of the intervention.

During the inspection, the Committee visited several project sites across the College of Health Sciences and the University's teaching hospital to assess the level of work and the facilities being provided.

At the Department of Nursing Science, the delegation inspected the remodelling of lecture halls, demonstration laboratories and the Public Health Laboratory.

At the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, the team inspected the rehabilitation of the multipurpose laboratory for dual use as a lecture theatre and laboratory, as well as the remodelling and furnishing of clinical seminar rooms. The delegation also inspected the conversion of the existing cafeteria into a 500-capacity lecture hall, the Clinical Hostel under construction and the building being developed for the Department of Dentistry.

Other project components inspected at the College of Health Sciences included the remodelling and furnishing of lecture and seminar rooms in the new TETFund building; the refurbishment and furnishing of laboratories in Biochemistry, Human Physiology and Pharmacology; and the expansion of Lecture Halls A, B and C to accommodate the growing student population.

The Committee also interacted with staff of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences to gain firsthand insight into the academic and infrastructural needs of the programme and the expected impact of the intervention on teaching, research and professional training.

The inspection provided an opportunity for the monitoring team to assess the extent of implementation of the projects, identify areas requiring attention and engage the University Management, academic leadership and staff on measures necessary to ensure that the intervention achieves its intended objectives.

The University Management expressed optimism that the successful completion and commissioning of the projects would significantly transform the learning environment, expand teaching and laboratory capacity, enhance clinical training and improve the overall quality of healthcare education at the University.

Management further noted that the intervention would not only address critical infrastructural needs but also position Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University as a stronger centre for the training of competent healthcare professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to healthcare delivery in Nigeria and beyond.
