UCH Ibadan Commemorates APONS Week 2026

The Association of Perioperative Nursing Students, APONS, UCH Ibadan, kicked off APONS Week 2026 on Monday with a Community Health Awareness Rally and Medical Outreach across the Mokola area, Ibadan.

The program, which is themed "Nutrition and Lifestyle: Eat Right, Live Drug-Free and Manage Diabetes," is in commemoration of the Founder's Day about 36 years ago.

While giving a hint about the program, the Head of the School of Perioperative Nursing, Mrs. Olapeju Olamuyiwa, commended the UCH Management under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, for creating an enabling environment for staff and students to serve the community.

She noted that this year's theme focuses on preventive health and lifestyle change. "This APONS week is about more than ceremonies. We are taking health education, screening and treatment directly to the people, while also building the capacity of our students," she said.

Mrs. Olamuyiwa added that free services to be offered during the outreach include blood sugar checks, blood pressure checks, free medications, health education, and general medical consultations.

The week-long activities, which include medical outreach, symposium, inter-school quiz, thanksgiving services, etc, are expected to draw students, healthcare professionals, and members of the Ibadan community together.

The Chief Medical Director, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, CMAC, Professor Olubukola Adesina, congratulated the students and staff of Perioperative Nursing.

"Perioperative Nursing occupies a critical place in healthcare delivery. To build skills and capacity, we must learn through practice and ensure that the community benefits maximally from our service," Professor Adesina stated on behalf of the CMD. She wished the association a successful and impactful week.
