Tragedy as Prominent Student Leader and First-Class Graduate, Mubarak Aminu Mams, Dies in Motor Accident

The academic and student communities in Northern Nigeria are in mourning following the tragic death of Mubarak Aminu Mams, a distinguished scholar and former student leader.

Mams, a recent first-class graduate of the Department of Science and Technology Education at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), reportedly lost his life in a ghastly motor accident on Wednesday, February 25, 2025, while traveling from Kano to Yobe State.

Known for his remarkable ability to balance rigorous academics with high-level advocacy, Mams served as the President of the Katsina State Students’ Association (KASSA), BUK Chapter. Despite the demands of his leadership role, he achieved the rare feat of graduating with First Class Honours.

At the time of the accident, he was a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), fulfilling his mandatory one-year service to the nation.

The news of his passing has triggered a wave of tributes from colleagues, friends, and university officials:

Student Union Government (SUG-BUK): The union described his death as a "painful and shocking loss" to the entire student body.

Academic Peers: Colleagues remembered him as a "man of excellence, humility, and service" whose leadership left a lasting impact on his fellow Katsina State students.

Funeral prayers (Janazah) were scheduled to take place today at the Damaturu Central Mosque at 5:00 PM.
