UI Hosts 3rd Quarter 2026 NUC-PSC SERVICOM Committee Meeting
The 3rd Quarter 2026 National Universities Commission-Parastatal Committee (NUC-PSC) SERVICOM Meeting has been hosted by the University of Ibadan.
The meeting, which brought together Focal Officers of SERVICOM from different universities in Nigeria, offered a platform to exchange ideas, share experiences, and deliberate on defining roles and execution of the SERVICOM mandate within the university system.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, University of Ibadan, Professor Juwon T. Arotiba, speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, at the opening ceremony, reaffirmed the commitment of UI to accountability, transparency and excellence in service delivery.
He said the University had made significant efforts to improve its service delivery mechanisms through SERVICOM, stressing that its principles are integrated into the organizational culture of the institution.
He added that UI continually works towards making its processes more efficient and responsive, while ensuring that service standards are clearly defined.
The DVC, however, acknowledged that the journey towards service excellence is continuous and comes with challenges, including managing conflicts, addressing setbacks and responding to changing expectations of stakeholders.
He explained that the University of Ibadan is constantly making concerted efforts to strengthen the capacity of its staff to deliver services in line with contemporary and global best practices.

Professor Arotiba said the University was honoured to host the meeting and described it as an opportunity for stakeholders in the Nigerian university system to review progress, share experiences and develop practical strategies for improving service delivery.
He asserted that the University of Ibadan occupies a unique position in Nigeria's higher education landscape, having been established in 1948 as the first university in Nigeria.
The DVC said the institution was proud of its heritage and remained conscious of the responsibility that comes with its position, particularly in setting standards in academic excellence and service delivery.
Professor Arotiba restated that the SERVICOM initiative, established by the Federal Government in 2004, was designed to promote effective and efficient service delivery across ministries, departments and agencies.
He said the NUC-PSC SERVICOM Committee, established in 2012, had provided a platform for universities to network, exchange ideas and share experiences on improving service delivery.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Maruf Alausa, CON, in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Director, Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement Department, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Anthony Ogwo, urged Nigerian universities to strengthen service delivery and ensure that service charters translate into measurable improvements for students, staff and other stakeholders.
He explained that a service charter represents a commitment by an institution to deliver services efficiently, effectively and within stipulated timelines and not just an event of commissioning, while an institution's commitment should go beyond the commissioning of service charters.
He encouraged participating institutions to adhere strictly to the provisions of their service charters and urged service delivery officers to extend the knowledge gained from the meeting to various offices, departments and faculties.
The Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM, Office of the President, Abuja, Mrs. Helen Lawal, called on universities to move beyond the mere publication of service charters and ensure that commitments contained in the documents translate into improved experiences for students, staff and other stakeholders.
According to her, the university occupies an important place in the development of human capital, research, innovation and national transformation, making it appropriate for the institution to demonstrate leadership not only in academic excellence but also in service delivery.
She described the launch of the reviewed Service Charter as a renewed commitment to the people served by the institution, explaining that it outlines service standards, timelines, channels for obtaining information and seeking redress, as well as the responsibilities of service providers and recipients.
She stressed that the real value of a Service Charter lies not in its publication but in the extent to which its commitments are implemented, and urged stakeholders to regard the document as a management tool for continuous service improvement, rather than merely a compliance requirement.
According to the SERVICOM CEO, complaints and feedback from students and other stakeholders should be regarded as valuable sources of information for improving institutional processes and service delivery.
She commended NUC for organizing the engagement and thanked the management of the University of Ibadan for hosting the meeting.
On behalf of the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, the Chairman, NUC-PSC, Mr. Iliyasu Musa, appreciated the University of Ibadan management for approving the review of the service charter.
The event featured the launching of the revised UI Service Charter by the Ag. National Coordinator/CEO SERVICOM, Mrs. Helen Lawal, and awards in different categories were presented to deserving staff of the University.
A courtesy visit had earlier been paid to the Vice-Chancellor to commemorate the event.
