The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) will on Friday, August 15, 2025, hold a valedictory ceremony in honour of its Chief Medical Director, Prof. Darlington Ewaen Obaseki, alongside the launch of his new book, Reform by Design: A Strategic Blueprint for Transforming Teaching Hospitals in Africa – The UBTH Model.
The event will mark the conclusion of Prof. Obaseki’s tenure and highlight the reforms and achievements that shaped his eight-year leadership. The book to be unveiled during the ceremony captures the strategic innovations, infrastructural developments, and policy shifts implemented under his watch to transform UBTH into a reference point for healthcare delivery in Africa.
Appointed in 2017, Prof. Obaseki is credited with introducing patient-centered services, strengthening academic and clinical training, upgrading hospital technology, and fostering partnerships that advanced both medical practice and research.
