Gov Kefas Appeals to TSU Lecturers to Suspend Strike, Assures Payment of Allowances

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has appealed to striking lecturers of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, to suspend their industrial action, assuring them of his administration's readiness to address their demands, including payment of outstanding allowances.

The Governor made the appeal on Thursday during a visit to the university, where he held discussions with the institution's management over the ongoing strike.

Dr. Kefas expressed concern over the timing of the industrial action, noting that it came in the middle of examinations and was unnecessary in view of efforts already being made by his administration to respond to the needs of lecturers and improve conditions in the institution.

He disclosed that the state government has constituted a committee to examine the issues raised by the academic staff and review the existing salary and allowance structure.

According to him, the administration is prepared to implement a uniform salary and allowance system in line with practices in other institutions, as part of measures to address the concerns of the lecturers.

Dr. Kefas urged the striking lecturers to reconsider their position and allow government time to resolve the issues, emphasising the importance of uninterrupted academic activities to students' future and the development of the state.

The appeal comes amid growing concerns over disruption of academic activities at the university, with students awaiting resolution of the dispute to continue their studies.
