UDUS Alumnus Abdulwaheed Sofiullahi Wins Prestigious 2025 Kavli Global Science Journalism Award

Abdulwaheed Sofiullahi, a distinguished alumnus of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) and the National Association of Campus Journalists (NACJ-UDUS), has been honored with the esteemed 2025 Kavli Global Science Journalism Award.

This prestigious recognition, presented by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), acknowledges Sofiullahi's exceptional journalism skills and his commitment to impactful storytelling.

Sofiullahi, the sole African recipient of this year's award, received the 'Gold Award' for his thought-provoking article, "Niger Delta Communities Grappling With Health Impacts of Gas Flaring." This investigative piece shed light on the alarming relationship between gas flaring and the health of nearby communities, sparking crucial conversations about environmental responsibility and public health.

 

This achievement marks the second consecutive year that a Nigerian journalist has received the AAAS Kavli Award, underscoring the country's growing presence in the global science journalism landscape.
