We Are One University – VC Tells Pioneer Students Consultative Forum at Inauguration

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has inaugurated its Students Consultative Forum (NSCF) and sworn in its pioneer Executive Committee to deepen student representation and engagement.

The ceremony was held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the University Headquarters in Abuja, with members of Management, Study Centre Directors, staff and student leaders in attendance, both physically and virtually.

Inaugurating the Forum, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, described it as a significant step in strengthening the University’s student engagement architecture, given NOUN’s wide and dispersed learner base as an Open and Distance Learning institution.

He charged the pioneer executives to serve as a bridge between students and Management by listening to their colleagues, understanding University policies and procedures, and engaging constructively.

Prof. Uduma emphasised unity within the University system, reminding the students and staff that despite its decentralised structure, NOUN remains one institution.

“We are one University. One Management, one Senate, one congregation. Whatever affects a student in any Study Centre affects us all,” he said.

He urged the Forum to promote dialogue, inclusion and responsible leadership among the student body across the 120 Study Centres nationwide.

The inauguration of the NSCF marks a new chapter in student participation at NOUN, aimed at ensuring that learners have a structured platform to contribute to policy discussions and institutional development.
