UDUS Students Express Worry Over New Academic Calendar

The new academic calendar released by the management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), has sparked reactions among students, as many describe it as too long.

According to the calendar released by the school management on the 7th of November, the 2025/2026 academic session is expected to run from November 10, 2025, to the 10th of October 2026, a duration some students consider as lengthy.

Aisha Yusuf, a 200-level Law student, said she was shocked when she saw the calendar. According to her, the short break after the previous session and the long new calendar are both worrisome.

“I’ve barely spent up to a month at home, and another calendar was released. The calendar is too long, and I’d love it if the school could reduce it,” she said.

Meanwhile, Akorede Saoban, a final-year student, said he was not surprised by the development, describing long calendars as a “regular trademark” of the school. He, however, acknowledged that the management might have planned the schedule in the students’ best interest.

“The management wants the best for us,” he noted, “but they should at least extend the holiday so students can have proper rest at home.”

Another student, Tijani Anisah, also shared Akorede’s sentiment and appealed to the school to extend the holiday period if the calendar cannot be adjusted.

When contacted, The Dean Student affairs, Prof. Umar Aliyu Said that the school is not aware of such comments about the calendar, and therefore, the management cannot change it because of that.
