UI Students' Union President Calls for Review of New Fee Schedule

In a series of tweets from his social media handle, AWEDA Bolaji Damilola, the newly elected President of the University of Ibadan Students' Union, voiced concerns over the recent fee hike at the institution. He highlighted the disconnect between the new fee schedule and the economic realities faced by the majority of students.

Expressing disappointment in the union's deviation from its original ideological purpose, AWEDA emphasized the need for the association to rediscover its purpose and actively engage in the fight against neo-liberal influence. He revealed the formation of a committee in the 10th assembly to investigate the necessity of continued membership in the association.

AWEDA also addressed the university management's decision to implement the new fee structure, acknowledging their responsibility to ensure the institution's sustainability. However, he stressed that the increased fees are beyond the reach of the majority of students and undermine the university's reputation as a safe haven for quality education.
