UniAbuja Honours Excellence at Combined 2024 and 2025 Researchers and Authors Recognition Awards

The Centre for Sponsored Projects of the University has hosted the combined 2024 and 2025 UniAbuja Researchers and Authors Recognition Awards, an annual ceremony honouring outstanding scholarly achievement and research excellence across the institution.

The event celebrated academics whose work has attracted competitive research grants and produced high-impact publications.

Speaking at the ceremony, yesterday, the director of the Centre for Sponsored Projects, Professor Obiageli Nnodu, noted that 21 academics received awards across various medal categories in 2024, while an additional 14 researchers distinguished themselves in 2025 through grants secured from international donor agencies.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, commended the award recipients for their scholarly contributions and their impact on knowledge advancement.

He urged senior researchers to strengthen mentorship of early-career academics, describing knowledge transfer and collaboration as critical to sustaining innovation and research leadership within the University.

The programme also featured a capacity-building workshop titled “Empowering Researchers to Publish Effectively, Conduct Systematic Reviews, and Manage Funded Projects.” The session was delivered by Dr Bernard Appiah, associate professor of Public Health at Falk College, Syracuse University, United States, and focused on strengthening researchers’ competencies in scholarly publishing and project management.
