The 2025 UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development is now open for nominations, creating an opportunity for academic staff of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and other educators whose work is transforming teacher development to gain international recognition.
The 2025 UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development is now open for nominations, creating an opportunity for academic staff of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and other educators whose work is transforming teacher development to gain international recognition.
Awarded every two years, the Prize honours outstanding initiatives that improve teaching practices, strengthen teacher education, and advance professional development programmes in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education.
What is at Stake?
For the 2025–2026 edition, three Laureates will each receive:
- A prestigious UNESCO certificate.
- $100,000 in prize money.

How to Apply
Interested applicants should complete the online application via: https://www.unesco.org/en/prizes/teacher-development and submit the completed forms and required documents to: natcom.unesco@education.gov.org.
Deadlines:
- Submission to NATCOM-UNESCO for collation and internal processing: Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
- Submission to UNESCO (Paris Time): Friday, October 31, 2025.
