UNIMAID Observes Peaceful Eid-el-Fitr; Chief Imam Calls for Unity and Devotion

The University of Maiduguri marked the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration peacefully on Friday, 20th March 2026. Muslim worshippers from within and outside the University converged at the Eid prayer ground to observe the two Rak’ah congregational prayer.

In his sermon following the prayer, the Chief Imam, Goni Gabchiya, urged the Muslim Ummah to adhere strictly to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He also encouraged continued devotion by sustaining the acts of worship observed during the holy month of Ramadan throughout the year.

He further prayed for lasting peace in Borno State and across Nigeria, calling on both Muslims and non-Muslims to live together in peace and harmony, exercise patience, and uphold the spirit of brotherhood.

Among the dignitaries present at the Eid ground were the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, other principal officers of the University of Maiduguri, and the former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. The congregational prayer was led by the University’s Chief Imam, Goni Ali Gabchiya."
