UNIMAID SUG Secures Free Shuttle Service to Mitigate Student Transportation Challenges
In a major win for student welfare, the Students' Union Government (SUG) of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has successfully negotiated the provision of free shuttle buses to ease the transportation difficulties faced by the student body.
The breakthrough follows a high-level strategic meeting on February 13, 2026, between the SUG President, Comrade Aliyu Idriss Dakasku (DK), and the Facility Coordinator of UNIMAID Consults, Dr. Jime.
The initiative was prompted by an increasing number of student complaints regarding the shortage of transport options from the Park Area to the University Complex, particularly during academic peak hours. During the discussions, Comrade Dakasku underscored the academic burden placed on students by these logistical gaps.
In response, Dr. Jime reaffirmed that improving campus mobility is a priority for the University Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, as part of broader welfare initiatives.
A significant addition to the agreement is the extension of the free shuttle service to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
Target Group: Students residing on the main campus who attend lectures and clinical rotations at the Teaching Hospital.
Schedule: The dedicated UMTH shuttle will be stationed at the park area by 7:30 AM daily to ensure students arrive for their sessions on time.
The SUG leadership expressed profound gratitude to the Students' Affairs Division, UNIMAID Consults, and the University Management for their rapid response to these concerns.
This development is being hailed as a key milestone of the 2025/2026 SUG administration’s "Students First Agenda," reflecting a continued commitment to removing barriers to academic success through practical interventions.
