UNIMAID VC Receives MWAN Delegation on Advocacy Visit

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, received a courtesy visit from the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

The MWAN delegation, led by President Doctor Anna Peter, congratulated Professor Mele on his appointment and familiarized themselves with the university management.

Doctor Anna Peter noted that MWAN executives are predominantly alumni of UNIMAID, actively engaged in medical practice and teaching within the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the UNIMAID Medical Centre. She expressed gratitude to the university management for providing opportunities for MWAN members to teach and mentor medical students, despite being professional doctors.

The Vice Chancellor assured MWAN of the university's continued support for professional bodies, emphasizing efforts to maintain the University Medical College's standards as a Centre of Excellence.

Professor Mele called on MWAN to join forces with the university in mobilizing members, both within and in the diaspora, to support the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration of UNIMAID.
