UNIPORT Commissions 36th Convocation Committee; Week-Long Events Set for May 2026

The University of Port Harcourt has inaugurated its 36th Convocation Ceremony Committee, marking the formal commencement of preparations for one of the institution’s most important academic events.

The inauguration, which held at the Council Chambers on campus, took place on Tuesday, April 14,2026 and was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, who tasked members to ensure a seamless and memorable ceremony.

Describing the convocation as a critical platform for showcasing the university’s achievements, the Vice-Chancellor urged the committee to work collaboratively and uphold the institution’s standards of excellence.

The committee is chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rosemary Ogu Rosemary Ogu, and comprises representatives from key units including administration, security, media, logistics, and protocol.

The convocation ceremony is scheduled to hold from May 18 to May 23, 2026, and will feature a convocation lecture, award presentations, and the conferment of degrees on graduating students.
