The announcement was made by Dr. Gloria O. Chindah, Registrar, emphasizing the Centre’s role in producing highly skilled professionals to drive Nigeria’s energy sector.

Introduction
Established in 2011 as a Centre of Excellence, the CPG caters to the geosciences skill needs of the petroleum industry. The postgraduate programmes are designed in consultation with industry stakeholders and are delivered by lecturers from the University of Port Harcourt, other universities, and petroleum industry experts. Lectures are organized in modules covering general, core, practical, and field training.

Mode of Study and Examination
- Hybrid modular delivery: Onsite and online
- Students must complete taught courses, field/laboratory work, seminars, and team/individual industrial projects.
- Examinations administered both onsite and online.
Schedule:
- Full-time: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (physical with real-time online conferencing)
- Part-time: Monday to Friday, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. (online); Saturdays 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (physical)
Course Delivery
Instructors include university lecturers and petroleum industry experts, providing both academic and practical industry training.
Admission Requirements
PGD in Petroleum Geosciences:
- First degree holders (minimum CGPA 1.50/5) or HND holders (Upper Credit) in Petroleum Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering, or Geo-mining Technology.
- HND holders with Lower Credit and relevant industry experience are also eligible.
- Nigerian applicants must have NYSC discharge certificates.
PGD in Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management:
- First degree or HND (Upper Credit) in Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences, or Management with energy industry experience.
MSc in Petroleum Geosciences:
- First degree (minimum CGPA 3.0/5) or PGD (minimum Credit) in relevant fields.
- PGD holders with Merit and relevant industry experience also eligible.
MSc in Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management:
- First degree or PGD (Credit) in Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences, or Management with three years of energy industry experience.
PhD in Petroleum Geosciences:
- Master’s degree (minimum CGPA 3.5/5) in Petroleum Geosciences or related fields.
- Candidates with relevant Master’s degree and industry experience are eligible.
