The University of Abuja has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Universidade do Estado da Bahia, Brazil, to enhance academic collaboration, research exchange and institutional partnership between both universities.

The agreement was formally concluded in Brasília on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, by the Rector of the Brazilian institution, Prof. Adriana dos Santos Marmori Lima, and the Director of Advancement and International Linkages at the University of Abuja, Prof. Olanrewaju Aladeitan, who signed on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi.

The partnership is designed to promote academic mobility and cooperation through structured programmes and shared institutional resources.

Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fawehinmi, described the agreement as a strategic step toward expanding the university’s global academic footprint and strengthening international engagement.

He said: “This agreement with the Universidade do Estado da Bahia will create great opportunities for students and staff of both institutions. We look forward to productive collaboration that will benefit both institutions through strong academic exchange and cooperation.”

The agreement aligns with the University of Abuja’s broader internationalisation agenda, as the institution is reportedly exploring additional partnerships with four other universities in Brazil for potential academic collaboration.
