University of Abuja VC Appeals to Striking Lecturers to Return to Work

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Abdul-Rasheed, has made a passionate appeal to striking academic staff to return to work, citing the need to prioritize the welfare of students and the university's reputation.

In a message to staff, the VC announced that management has magnanimously approved the payment of May 2024 salaries for all academic staff, including those who have refused to return to work. He acknowledged the interventions of prominent academics, Professor Toyin Falola and Professor Olu Obafemi, who have urged peaceful resolution.

The VC emphasized that the strike has tarnished the university's image, discouraging partnerships and grants. He encouraged lecturers to utilize the UniAbuja Virtual Classroom to cover syllabi and appealed to their conscience to consider the students' plight.
