University of Benin Bans Sign-Out Celebrations, Warns of Severe Sanctions

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has banned all forms of sign-out celebrations by graduating students.

This decision is in line with similar actions taken by other institutions, such as Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, and IBB University, Lapai, which have also prohibited sign-out ceremonies due to reports of misconduct and unacceptable behavior during such events.

Institutions cite violations of rules and regulations, as well as concerns over student safety and decorum, as reasons for implementing these bans. For instance, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic's management noted that the celebrations had become unacceptable and warned students against contravening the ban, threatening disciplinary action against those who do .
