The University of Ibadan has reaffirmed its status as Nigeria’s premier university in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

The latest global assessment, published on THE’s official website, placed the institution within the 801–1,000 band worldwide, ahead of all other Nigerian universities.

The rankings evaluated 2,191 institutions across 115 countries using 18 performance indicators across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry income, and international outlook.

Among the 51 Nigerian universities featured, only University of Ibadan and University of Lagos ranked within the 801–1,000 range. Bayero University, Kaduna; Covenant University; and Landmark University fell in the 1001–1200 bracket, while Ahmadu Bello University, Federal University of Technology Minna, University of Ilorin, University of Jos, and University of Nigeria were positioned between 1201–1500. Fourteen additional universities were placed above 1501, and 27 institutions were not ranked.
