University Of Maiduguri Joins 91 Institutions At 27th NUGA Games In Jos, Competes In 14 Sporting Events
The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) was among the 91 universities that participated in the colourful opening ceremony and match-past of the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), held on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, at the University of Jos Stadium.

The University’s contingent is competing in 14 sporting events at this year’s edition, showcasing the institution’s commitment to sports development and youth talent across diverse disciplines.
UNIMAID athletes are featuring in Football, Basketball (Male), Volleyball (Male and Female), Handball (Male), Table Tennis (Male Team), Tennis (Men’s Singles and Doubles), and Judo (Female and Male categories).

In the Taekwondo category, the University is fielding athletes in the Female Singles +78kg and -63kg, as well as Male +100kg, -100kg, -90kg, -81kg, -73kg, -66kg, and -60kg weight divisions.
The institution’s Athletics Team is also competing across a range of track and field events. Female athletes are representing the University in the 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 2000m, 3000m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 100m hurdles, and 400m hurdles, while the male athletes are participating in the 4x100m relay, discus, and long jump events.

Speaking ahead of the competitions, members of the University’s contingent expressed optimism and determination for an outstanding performance, with hopes of returning to Maiduguri with multiple medals across the participating events.
