UNIZIK Deputy Vice-Chancellor Honoured at 6th Eastern Nigeria Merit Awards

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Alex Chinwuba Asigbo, has been honoured by the Eastern Nigeria Merit Awards for his outstanding contributions to educational development in Nigeria.

Prof. Asigbo, a Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies, was recognised alongside other distinguished awardees across various categories during the 6th edition of the Eastern Nigeria Merit Awards held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Best Western Meloch Hotel. The event was themed “Inspiring Growth.”

Speaking during the ceremony, the National Coordinator of the organisation, Prince Ikechi Okereke, stated that the awards were established to celebrate individuals, groups, and organisations that have excelled in their various fields and made significant contributions to the growth and standardisation of activities within the Eastern region.

According to him, Prof. Asigbo emerged as one of the star awardees in recognition of his exemplary personal pedigree and remarkable achievements in his professional career.

In his response after receiving the award, Prof. Asigbo expressed appreciation to the organisers for the honour. He reaffirmed his commitment as an educationist to the promotion of learning, knowledge sharing, and meaningful contributions to societal development.
