UNIZIK Lecturers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Incomplete August Salary

Academic staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, have commenced an indefinite strike over incomplete salary payments for August 2026.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU-UNIZIK, said the action became necessary after members received only part of their August salaries.

In a statement, the union demanded full payment of the outstanding salaries and called for urgent intervention to prevent further disruption of academic activities on campus.

ASUU-UNIZIK also urged President Tinubu and relevant authorities to address issues affecting staff welfare and ensure timely payment of entitlements to lecturers in public universities.

The union stated that academic activities would remain suspended until the outstanding salaries are fully paid and assurances are given to forestall a recurrence.
