UNN Launches Digital App to Improve Academic, Administrative Operations

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has launched PRIDE, a digital application designed to improve efficiency and accountability in academic and administrative services.

The application, available on the Google Play Store, is designed to simplify University processes, improve access to relevant information and make monitoring of activities across the University more seamless.

The launch is part of the University's larger digitisation process under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya.

Discussing the imperative of the digital platform with deans, directors and heads of departments and units on October 8, 2026, Prof. Ortuanya called on staff to embrace the digital transformation, stating that it holds the key to solving common challenges in the University.

He said the deployment of the digital application represents the software component of his rebuilding agenda, having embarked on extensive rehabilitation of physical structures and roads, which he described as the hardware component.

He explained that the app was not meant to witch-hunt anyone but was aimed at building a more efficient, transparent and globally competitive service delivery system, stressing the need for UNN to align its operations with global best practices in the use of technology for teaching, learning, administration and service delivery.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University had already made progress in digitising academic processes, noting that students' results were now available online. He said the application will further ensure that lecturers upload students' results within a stipulated time, thereby reducing delays in the processing of academic records.

According to him, the digitisation system would also provide real-time access to relevant information on staff and students' attendance at lectures and the use of official hours.

Prof. Ortuanya further disclosed that the app will come with digital identity cards for staff and students, which would serve multiple purposes, including attendance monitoring and access to students' academic information through scanning.

He also highlighted the potential of digitisation to transform transcript processing, expressing the University's aspiration for transcripts to be generated and printed within minutes without delays.

"We need a better UNN and we wish to join the world where they are," the Vice-Chancellor said, emphasising the need for collective commitment to the University's digital transformation.

The digitisation session also featured a demonstration by the developer of the app and the University's ICT team, which showcased the software developed to support the initiative and illustrated how the system could facilitate information access and improve administrative processes.

Participants subsequently engaged the team in an interactive question-and-answer session to seek clarification on various aspects of the system.
