WAEC Releases Revised 2025 WASSCE Results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has released revised results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) after discovering grading discrepancies that significantly affected candidate performance statistics.
The council apologized for the error, which was caused by a wrongly assigned serialized code file that led to incorrect marking of some papers. The affected subjects included English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and Economics.
After correcting the error, 1,794,821 candidates (91.14%) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, with 1,239,884 candidates (62.96%) earning five credits, including English and Mathematics.
The results also showed a gender breakdown, with 657,819 (53.05%) female candidates and 582,065 (46.95%) male candidates obtaining five credits, including English and Mathematics.
Despite the improvement, the results still reflect a 9.16% drop from the 72.12% performance recorded in 2024. WAEC has offered an unreserved apology to candidates, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders for the emotional ordeal caused by the grading error.
Candidates can check their results on the WAEC website and apply for digital certificates, which will be available within 48 hours of verification. Hard copy certificates will be ready within 90 days.
