Research delegations from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, and New York University (NYU) visited the University of Abuja yesterday.

The teams were led by Professor Mark Huffman of Washington University and Professor Gbenga Ogedegbe of NYU, both of whom are research partners of the University.
The visit was facilitated by Professor Dike Ojji, Director of the Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training and Professor of Medicine and Preventive Cardiology at the University of Abuja.
In welcoming the delegations, Vice-Chancellor Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi emphasized the importance of sustained international collaboration for translating research into tangible improvements in public health.
"I'm happy that you are adopting a primary health care approach to your research. We are looking at a primary health care system going to the root cause of the problem, trying to work with under-privileged groups, trying to work with communities," he said.

He added that the University management would explore ways to replicate overseas studies in Nigeria to help reduce the burden of heart diseases across the African continent.
