The Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare has called on the Director General of NYSC to ensure the enthronement of cultural values, discipline and training among the Corps Members.

He described the Scheme as the largest concentration of Nigerian graduates, hence, the need for concerted efforts by NYSC Management to ensure the psychological, social and mental well-being of all participants as they prepare for greater challenges in life. 

Myschoolnews reports he stated this when the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Yusha'u Dogara Ahmed paid him a familiarisation visit in his office in Abuja.

Dare said President Buhari, having recognized the tremendous roles of the youths in the socio-economic development of the country, and in a bid to ensure the realization of the goals of the founding fathers of the Scheme, increased Corps Members' monthly allowance from N19,800 to N33,000.

Dare expressed optimism that the proposed NYSC Trust Fund would soon be assented to by the President. 

The Minister said this is in furtherance of the plans to equip the youths for self reliance and entrepreneurship,

 

He commended the Senate and House Committee Members on Youth and Sports as well as the former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon for their commitment to the realization of the fund  for the sustainability of the Scheme.

In his response, the Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Yusha'u Dogara Ahmed promised that there would be tremendous innovations in the Scheme during his tenure of office.

He said he would bring his wealth of experience into use, which would propel him on the development plan for Corps Members as well as improving the sustainability and more visibility of the Scheme.

He also appealed for other stakeholders' support for the Scheme.

Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar congratulated the Director General on his appointment and assured that the Ministry will continue to provide an enabling environment for the sustainability of the Scheme, in line with dreams of its founding fathers.
