ABU Faculty of Life Sciences Celebrates Research Excellence and Diligent Service at 2025 Annual Awards
The Faculty of Life Sciences at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) held its 2025 End-of-Year Luncheon and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, December 17, at the Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, Main Campus, Samaru.
The event, which has become a hallmark of the faculty’s culture, was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Bello Sabo. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor lauded the faculty’s tradition of recognizing excellence, urging other academic units within the university to emulate this strategic approach to boosting staff morale and productivity in research and innovation.
The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Maryam Aminu, noted that the ceremony—now in its third consecutive year since its inception in 2023—has evolved into a vital institutional platform. While previous editions focused on institutional memory and administrative integrity, the 2025 awards placed a significant emphasis on scholarly impact, recognizing staff for high Google Scholar citations and high-quality research publications.
“This year’s programme reflects a mature faculty that values research impact and productivity,” Prof. Aminu stated, while expressing gratitude to the university management for their continued support.
A highlight of the luncheon was the special recognition of Prof. I. H. Nock, a distinguished senior faculty member who officially retired on December 15, 2025. Prof. Nock expressed his gratitude for the honor and pledged his ongoing commitment to the faculty’s development in his retirement.
