Adeyemi Federal University Education Vice‑Chancellor Charges New Student Union Leaders on Responsible Leadership
The Vice‑Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola, on Monday 24 November 2025, inaugurated the new student‑union executive led by President Comrade James Friday and urged the leaders to view “leadership as a noble call to responsibility.”
Addressing the newly‑elected officials at the Babatunde Ipaye Lecture Theatre, Professor Popoola called on them to discharge their duties with integrity, vision and commitment, emphasizing the student union’s role as a strategic partner in promoting student welfare, peace, unity and academic excellence. He counselled humility, transparency, accountability and selfless service, urging the leaders to “engage constructively, listen effectively, and ensure every student feels seen, heard and represented.” He warned that the university will not tolerate conduct undermining the dignity of the union.
Dean of Students Affairs Dr. (Mrs.) Justina Ogboru welcomed participants and thanked the Vice‑Chancellor for his support through the Division of Students Affairs. She praised outgoing President Comrade Aniefiok Gideon as a true leader and appealed to the new officials to regard their positions as a call to service rather than personal enrichment.
Outgoing President Comrade Aniefiok Gideon thanked university management, his team and students for their cooperation. New President Comrade James Friday thanked students for the trust placed in him, pledging to build on his predecessor’s achievements with a focus on academic welfare, enhanced collaborations, educationally‑oriented social activities and entrepreneurship.
Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of ASUU AFUED, SSANU, NASU and NAAT. Prominent attendees included Deputy Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao, University Librarian Dr. Azino Akpokurerie, the Vice‑Chancellor’s wife Dr. (Mrs.) C.J. Popoola and several senior university officials.
The inauguration highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering responsible student leadership and maintaining a supportive campus environment.
