AFUED Inaugurates New NAAT Executive; VC Calls for Enhanced Technologist Training

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) chapter, has inaugurated a new executive team to lead the association for a four-year tenure.

The inauguration, held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, saw Comrade Gbadamosi Lasisi sworn in as the Caretaker Chairman, alongside Saliyu Mutiu (Secretary), Oloyede Idaya (Treasurer), and Akinwonmi Babalola and Adesina Ayodeji as members of the executive.

Addressing the union, the Vice-Chancellor of AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, emphasized the indispensable role of technologists in national growth. He advocated for increased investment in their training to sharpen technical skills, noting that the university remains committed to a peaceful and collaborative relationship with all campus unions.

The National President of NAAT, Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma (represented by the South West Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Olawumi Samuel Akinade), urged the new leaders to abide by the union’s constitution and support the university management’s developmental goals.

The event featured a keynote lecture by Dr. Bello Olawale from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA). Speaking on "Effective Leadership Strategies for Laboratory Professionals," Dr. Olawale identified key leadership traits—including integrity and emotional intelligence—while urging the government to boost funding for the continuous professional development of technologists.

Marking their transition into office with a gesture of corporate social responsibility, the NAAT AFUED chapter donated critical medical equipment to the University Health Centre, including:

The ceremony, held at the New Centre for Educational Technology, was attended by top university officials, including the Rector of Adeyemi College of Technology, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, and various deans and directors.
