The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Prof. OtoAbasi E. Akpan, has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing staff welfare and fostering partnerships to build a dynamic, inclusive university community.

Speaking at a reception held in his honor on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the university’s main campus, Prof. Akpan emphasized the importance of collaboration and community development in achieving the university’s vision.

“Universities globally thrive on collaborations,” he said, promising to galvanize the AKSU community to leverage opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally. “Having spent thirteen years in various roles within this institution, I understand the peculiar challenges faced by staff and students. We will work together to provide vital amenities including housing, schools, market linkages, and access to quality healthcare to support families of teaching and non-teaching staff.”

Expressing gratitude to God and the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, who is also the university’s visitor, Prof. Akpan pledged to align the university’s efforts with the Governor’s Arise Agenda, calling on staff to sustain positive stakeholder relationships for the institution’s growth.

The occasion also featured goodwill messages from key university figures, including Prof. Edna Akpan, Director of Career Services Centre; Dr. Frank Namso, Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AKSU branch; and Mr. Raphael Ukeme, Head of the Directorate of Human Resources. They congratulated Prof. Akpan and expressed optimism for smooth administration through staff cooperation.

The President of the Student Union, Comrade Elijah Ekanem, assured the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the unwavering support from the student body.

The event was marked by vibrant cultural dance displays and other celebratory activities welcoming Prof. Akpan’s appointment.
