AKSU Flour Productions Achieves NAFDAC Certification, Launching Specialized Health-Focused Products
In a major boost to Nigeria’s agro-industrial sector, AKSU Flour Productions, an enterprise owned by Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), has officially secured certification from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The approval, confirmed via the NAFDAC Automated Product Administration and Monitoring System (NAPAMS) portal, validates that the institution’s flour products meet stringent national safety, quality, and regulatory standards for public distribution.
Distinguishing itself from conventional flour mills, AKSU Flour Productions has focused its research on specialized dietary needs. The newly certified products include:
Low Glucose Cassava Flour: Fortified with Vitamin A and specifically formulated for diabetic patients.
Unripe Plantain Flour: Fortified with Vitamin A to provide a nutrient-dense, healthier carbohydrate alternative.
This achievement positions the university as a credible player in the food processing industry, capable of contributing to national food security while promoting healthier dietary options.
The NAFDAC certification is the result of a collaborative effort between student innovation and academic supervision. The university community has extended commendations to the core team behind the project:
Comr. Westgarth Emem Westgarth – Initiator and Inventor.
Prof. Elijah Nya – Project Supervisor and Coordinator.
Mr. Udauk Michael – Project Research Member.
By securing this regulatory milestone, AKSU transitions from purely theoretical research to value-driven production, offering students practical enterprise experience while generating high-quality consumer goods for the Nigerian market.
The certification serves as a testament to Akwa Ibom State University’s commitment to practical learning and innovation. It also provides a framework for the university to scale its agro-industrial drive, potentially expanding its product reach beyond the state and into regional markets.
