Prof. Mohammed Aliyu Paiko, Vice-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University (AKU), inaugurated the NARSII Planning Committee, marking a historic step toward advancing agricultural research and innovation in Niger State.

Prof. Mohammed Aliyu Paiko, the Vice-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University (AKU), officially inaugurated the Niger State Research, Science, and Innovation Institute (NARSII) Planning Committee at AKU, Minna.

The initiative, inspired by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, represents the first sub-national research institute in Nigeria and is dedicated to fostering agricultural advancements that align with the state's green economy goals.

During the ceremony, Prof. Paiko outlined the crucial roles of each committee member, emphasizing their expertise in agriculture and biotechnology. He reflected on the remarkable journey of AKU, which officially began its academic programs in July 2024 with 86 pioneer students. This follows the enactment of the Abdulkadir Kure University Law in 2023 and the university's swift progression since its establishment.

Prof. Paiko also stressed how NARSII would complement the state's development goals, especially in food security and job creation. The institute is expected to operate under the university's guidance, with semi-autonomy to secure its own funding. The committee has been tasked with presenting a comprehensive report on the operational framework, proposed structure, and funding strategies within a month.

Prof. Lawal Alimi Folorunsho, the committee chairman, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the initiative. He highlighted the institute’s potential to drive agricultural innovation and economic growth, drawing inspiration from successful models like those in Zaria and Ibadan.
