Arochukwu Set for Major Transformation into Tourism, Industrial, and Academic Hub, Announces Monarch
His Eminence Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, the Eze Aro of Arochukwu, has announced plans to transform Arochukwu into a major tourism, industrial, and academic hub. This vision was shared during the global interactive session on September 1, 2024.

In an ambitious vision for Arochukwu's future, His Eminence Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, the Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, has outlined plans to transform the town into a prominent tourism destination, industrial zone, economic hub, and university town. This strategic development is being spearheaded by the Arochukwu Traditional Council and Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide.
The announcement was made during the 2nd edition of the global interactive session, Ububo Eze Aro n’Umu Aro, held on September 1, 2024. The online event, which ran for over two hours, saw participation from over 375 individuals worldwide.
Dr. Eberechukwu Oji shared his optimism about the future of Arochukwu, stating, "We are hoping that in the nearest future, from January to December, something very interesting would be happening in Arochukwu, making it a tourism destination and as such, visitors would always flood Arochukwu every month, all year round."
The Eze Aro emphasized his commitment to restoring Arochukwu’s historical prominence, saying, "I have said it times without number that Aro has lost its position as a legacy Kingdom, but one of my key plans is to restore the glory of Arochukwu. The Eze Aro Stool shall be number one in Abia State, in Ala Igbo, and in Nigeria, in Africa and the world."
Dr. Oji highlighted recent developments and ongoing efforts to rejuvenate Arochukwu, noting, "Since January, our efforts have been to present Aro in the best light. Anyone who has been reading the news, listening to the radio or watching the telly will know that this is our time. The time of Aro has come. Aro has come out of its paralysis and has started getting accolades."
He also addressed infrastructure improvements, including the commencement of the Okobo road project and the Arochukwu-Ohafia road. "Every community has its time and its season, and it’s our time and season now. There are still issues we are discussing with the Governor to ensure that Aro receives everything it deserves," he said.
Looking ahead, Dr. Oji expressed enthusiasm about the potential establishment of South Eastern University in Arochukwu, stating, "We have also heard that the South Eastern University is coming to Aro. It’s up to us to see that it happens. This means there could be several universities in Aro, and people from everywhere, even abroad, can come to Aro to school."
The Eze Aro’s vision sets a transformative path for Arochukwu, aiming to boost its economic and educational landscape while enhancing its global standing.
