FUNAAB Commissions 12 Electric Tricycles to Promote Green Mobility and Create Jobs

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has commissioned 12 new eco-friendly, zero-emission electric tricycles as part of efforts to promote sustainable transportation, improve campus mobility and create economic opportunities within the University Community.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has commissioned 12 new eco-friendly, zero-emission electric tricycles as part of efforts to promote sustainable transportation, improve campus mobility and create economic opportunities within the University Community.

The tricycles were provided through a partnership between FUNAAB and House of Destiny Global Services Limited and were commissioned on September 28, 2026, by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde.

The commissioning was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olusegun Idowu; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Olawale Dairo; other top University officials; and the Abeokuta Area Manager of House of Destiny Global Services Limited, Mr. Yomi Olajumoke.

The electric tricycles are expected to provide convenient and sustainable transportation for students and staff while supporting the University's environmental sustainability agenda and creating employment and income-generating opportunities within the University Community.

Speaking during the commissioning, Kehinde commended House of Destiny Global Services Limited for the partnership, describing the initiative as a welcome development that would support cleaner campus mobility while helping to address transportation challenges within and around the University.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the deployment of electric tricycles was in line with the growing global emphasis on environmentally responsible transportation.

He stressed that the initiative would contribute to a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable campus environment, while charging the operators to prioritise safety, responsible driving and consideration for the University environment.

Kehinde particularly urged the operators to ensure the safety and convenience of students and other members of the University Community.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that the initiative would provide a foundation for a stronger partnership between FUNAAB and House of Destiny Global Services Limited.

He also noted the possibility of expanding the collaboration to introduce other electric vehicles for use within the University Community.

Beyond transportation, the scheme is expected to provide the University with an additional avenue for sustainable internally generated revenue while creating direct employment opportunities for operators and other beneficiaries within and around the University.

The electric tricycles are powered entirely by electricity and produce no exhaust emissions, eliminating smoke and reducing the noise pollution associated with conventional fuel-powered transportation.

Their deployment is therefore expected to further support FUNAAB's commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

The commissioning ceremony ended with a test ride of the electric tricycles by the Vice-Chancellor and other University officials, providing a practical demonstration of the new mobility solution.
