Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) has recorded another historic milestone with the official flag-off and dedication of its Sampou Campus on Monday, September 1, 2025.

The event signaled a bold step towards expanding access to quality medical education and strengthening the institution’s commitment to community development.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Sampou Campus, Prof. Godwin Ziriki, described the development as “a beacon of hope, growth, transformation, and innovation” that would nurture the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dimie Ogoina, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri, for his vision in establishing the satellite campus. He reaffirmed BMU’s resolve to pursue its ASPIRE Agenda, positioning the University as a world-class center of medical excellence.

The Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Tarilah Tebepah, reflected on BMU’s journey from its initial conception in 2001 to its formal establishment in 2018, lauding the support of government officials in driving the institution’s infrastructural growth.
