Bayero University Kano VC, Professor Sagir Abbas, Elected Chairman of CVCFU

The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities (CVCFU) has unanimously elected Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), as its new Chairman. Professor Abbas takes over from Professor Lilian Salami, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, following the completion of her tenure.
This election is a recognition of Professor Abbas's exceptional contributions to Nigerian higher education. He has previously served as the alternate chairman of the committee since 2022. The CVCFU looks forward to his strategic leadership, aiming to promote collaboration and excellence among Nigerian universities.
Under his leadership, BUK has undergone significant transformations, solidifying its position as one of Nigeria’s leading universities. His tenure as the 11th substantive Vice Chancellor of BUK has seen innovations in research, teaching, and community service, aligning with his vision for a world-class institution.
Professor Abbas expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to work towards the progress and development of the association. He also urged members to offer their support in advancing the goals of the committee. A fellow of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria, he has previously served as Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Education, where he played a pivotal role in education reforms. He remains a firm believer in prioritizing education as key to national development.
