Bingham University Celebrates World Creativity and Innovation Day; VC Urges Local Resourcefulness

Bingham University joined the global community in commemorating World Creativity and Innovation Day, observed annually on April 21 and designated by the United Nations to promote the role of creativity and innovation in human development.

The 2026 celebration themed “Imagine, Create, and Transform: The Building Blocks for Entrepreneurial Success,” brought together staff and students for lectures and interactive sessions focused on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Kuje Ayuba, described creativity as the process of transforming ideas into practical solutions. He commended Mr Muyiwa Fasakin, convener of the initiative in Nigeria, for advancing the culture of innovation.

Professor Ayuba referenced the biblical account of the Tower of Babel, noting that in (Genesis 11:1-9), God acknowledged humanity’s collective potential, stating that nothing they imagine or set out to do would be beyond their reach. He used the analogy to underscore the importance of unity, communication, and resourcefulness in driving innovation, adding that solutions can be developed using locally available resources.

He further noted that Bingham University remains committed to fostering personal and community development and is among the first universities in Nigeria to mark the global observance.

In his keynote address, Mr. Fasakin said entrepreneurial success requires intentionality, not chance. He urged participants to move beyond ideas to execution, stressing that successful entrepreneurs identify opportunities, create solutions, and derive value from them.

He outlined a practical framework for success using the acronym SENSE: foresight, empowerment through knowledge, networking, smart thinking, and economic discipline, emphasizing the need to invest time and resources wisely.

The event also featured an interactive session, and discussions on applying creative and innovative thinking.

In his closing remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences, Professor Orbunde Bemshima Benjamin, commended the guest speaker and participants for their contributions, expressing appreciation for the strong turnout and engagement.
