BUK Staff Team Advances to NUSSA Semifinals with Dramatic Penalty Shootout Win

Bayero University Kano (BUK) Staff Football Team has secured a spot in the semifinals of the 14th Nigerian Universities Staff Sports Association (NUSSA) Games.

The team defeated Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, in a penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in their quarterfinal match on May 27, 2025.

Rabiu Sagir Mohammed, typically a striker with two goals in the tournament, was substituted into the goalkeeper position with five minutes left on the clock. He made a remarkable impact, saving two crucial penalties and helping BUK win the shootout 3-0. This extraordinary performance has boosted the team's morale and kept their gold medal aspirations alive.

The 14th NUSSA Games, hosted by Bayero University Kano, commenced on May 24, 2025, with the university's Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, declaring the tournament open .
