The Students’ Union Government (SUG) Caretaker Committee (CTC) of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has officially congratulated the newly elected Executive Officers and Senators following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 academic session elections.

The election, conducted via an e-voting platform on January 22, 2026, saw Abdulmudallib Kalli Sharif (popularly known as Sir Kalli) emerge as President-elect. Sharif secured his mandate with 4,153 votes in a high-stakes race. Other key victors include Arafat Yakubu Onono and Hamisu Abdussamad, who was elected Secretary-General.

In an official statement signed by the CTC Public Relations Officer, Sen. Yahya Lawan Rimin Kebe, the committee lauded the transparent nature of the democratic exercise. A total of 8,577 votes were cast, overseen by the Bayero University Independent Electoral Commission (BUKIECO) and the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Mukhtar Ridwan Bunza.

As the university prepares for the formal transition from the Caretaker Committee to substantive leadership, the CTC urged the incoming administration to prioritize inclusivity. With a student population exceeding 45,000, the committee stressed that the Sharif-led administration must harness the ideas of all contestants to effectively address student needs.

The statement concluded by invoking the university’s motto, “Wa Fawqa Dhi Ilmin Alim” (...and above every possessor of knowledge, there is one more learned), reminding the new leaders to lead with the core values of humanity and sacrifice.

The official handing-over ceremony is expected to take place shortly, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Bayero University Student Union.
