COOU Appoints Prof. Njideka Ebisi as Director, Centre for Gender Studies

The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has appointed Professor Njideka Ebisi as the new Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, in a move that underscores the university’s commitment to strong academic leadership and inclusive institutional development.

The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has appointed Professor Njideka Ebisi as the new Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, in a move that underscores the university’s commitment to strong academic leadership and inclusive institutional development.

Prof. Ebisi is a Professor of Industrial Sociology and Personnel Management and holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Port Harcourt. She brings to the role extensive academic and administrative experience, having served with distinction as the immediate past Head of the Department of Sociology, where she recorded several years of impactful and effective leadership.

Prior to her appointment, she served as the Deputy Director of the Centre for Gender Studies and currently chairs the University Hostel Management Committee, further reflecting her deep involvement in university governance and student welfare.

Prof. Ebisi is a Fellow of the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association and holds memberships in several international professional bodies, including the International Sociological Association and the International Law and Society Association.

Her appointment is expected to strengthen the Centre for Gender Studies through research-driven advocacy, policy engagement, and capacity-building initiatives aligned with national and global gender development goals.
