Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) made a striking debut at the 2025 Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Young Engineers Innovative Competition, marking a significant milestone in the university’s engineering trajectory.

Competing for the first time at the national contest, two teams from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Student Chapter, COOU, advanced from an initial pool of over 20 university teams to secure places among the final six at the grand finale, held on December 1, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

Leading the achievements was Mr. Ebube Francis Obiadi, a 400-level Mechanical Engineering student, whose project, “Vegetable Storage System,” earned 2nd Runner-Up for its innovative approach to improving food preservation and reducing post-harvest losses. Representing Civil Engineering, Miss Chidiebele Aniesi, a 300-level student, placed 4th with her “Smart Waste Bin” project, showcasing technology-driven solutions for environmental sanitation and urban waste management.

COOU emerged as the highest-ranked debuting university, significantly enhancing its visibility and credibility within Nigeria’s engineering community. The institution commended the students for their creativity, resilience, and dedication, while also acknowledging the mentorship of their staff adviser, Engr. Dr. Ifeanyichukwu U. Onyenanu.
