Ritman University Holds Candlelight Procession in Honour of Late Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Emmanuel Essien

The Management Team, staff, and students of Ritman University have held a solemn candlelight procession to honour the late Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Emmanuel Essien, wife of the University’s Founder and Visitor, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, FNSE.

The event paid tribute to a mother whose vision, compassion, and quiet strength were instrumental in shaping the ideals of the Ritman institutions. Participants, holding candles, walked in coordinated silence along designated campus routes, symbolising unity and the enduring light of the values she embodied. The procession concluded at the Founder’s residence, where attendees shared words of comfort, reflection, and solidarity with the bereaved family.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akan B. Williams, delivered a heartfelt condolence remark, describing the late matriarch as a guiding force who believed in education as a transformative power. He introduced the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Celestine A. Ntuen, and Co-Founder/member of the Governing Council, Engineer Sunday Umoh, who were also present.

In his response, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of love and solidarity, reflecting on his wife’s unwavering dedication, kindness, and commitment to their shared vision. He highlighted her lasting impact on their family and the institutions they built together.

The candlelight procession ended with quiet reflection and a renewed commitment among attendees to honour her memory through continued service and dedication to the growth of Ritman University.
