Federal University Lokoja Issues Fraud Alert Over Fake Vice Chancellor Facebook Account

The management of Federal University Lokoja has raised alarm over the existence of a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating the Vice Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, warning members of the public against falling victim to online deception.

The management of Federal University Lokoja has raised alarm over the existence of a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating the Vice Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, warning members of the public against falling victim to online deception.

In a public disclaimer issued by the university, authorities disclosed that the fake account, operating under the name “Gbenga Ibileye”, is being run by unidentified individuals with the intention of deceiving, defrauding, and exploiting unsuspecting members of the public.

The university clarified that Professor Ibileye does not operate, manage, or authorize any personal Facebook account for official, financial, or personal engagements. It stressed that any such profile circulating online is entirely fake and unauthorised.

Members of the public, staff, students, and stakeholders were therefore advised to take precautionary measures, including disregarding any communication originating from the impersonating account, avoiding responses to friend requests or messages, and refusing any financial or sensitive information requests linked to the profile.

The institution further warned that anyone who engages with or transacts through the fraudulent account does so at their own risk.

According to the statement, the university has already initiated steps to report the account to relevant authorities and ensure that those behind the impersonation are identified and prosecuted.

It also urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious online activities to appropriate regulatory and security agencies.

Federal University Lokoja reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its reputation and safeguarding the public from cyber fraud schemes targeting the institution and its officials.
