Federal University Lokoja Reopens After Three-Week Closure

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) in Kogi State has reopened its doors to students, following a three-week closure due to student protests over fatal road accidents that claimed the lives of five students .

The protests, which began on February 17, 2025, prompted the university management to shut down the institution temporarily to prevent further unrest.

After an emergency Senate meeting on March 10, 2025, the university approved the resumption of academic activities, with lectures set to begin on March 17, 2025 . The university management has assured stakeholders that efforts are being made to address the underlying safety concerns that led to the protests, particularly the recurring road mishaps near the institution.

In a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Rebecca Okojie, the university management expressed its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students . The management also appealed to students to refrain from any further protests and to focus on their academic pursuits.

 

The reopening of the university marks a significant step towards normalizing academic activities and restoring peace on campus.
