Federal University Lokoja Warns Public Against Fake Facebook Accounts Impersonating Vice-Chancellor

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has alerted members of the public to the activities of fraudsters impersonating its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, through fake Facebook accounts.

In a statement issued by the University Management, FUL disclosed that several fraudulent Facebook profiles have been created using the Vice-Chancellor's name to deceive unsuspecting individuals and defraud members of the public.

The University clarified that Professor Ibileye does not operate any active or multiple Facebook accounts apart from his old personal profile, "Gbenga Ibileye." It therefore urged the public to disregard any other Facebook account bearing his name or claiming to represent him, describing such profiles as fake and fraudulent.

According to the statement, the impersonators have been sending voice notes and messages to members of the public, falsely claiming they can facilitate contracts, employment opportunities, financial assistance and other business transactions on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor.

The University stressed that the Vice-Chancellor does not negotiate contracts, award appointments, conduct business transactions or carry out official engagements through Facebook, voice notes or any unofficial social media platform.

Members of the public were advised to remain vigilant and avoid responding to requests for money, personal information or promises of contracts, appointments or favours purportedly coming from the Vice-Chancellor through such channels.

The University further warned that anyone who chooses to engage in transactions with the impersonators does so entirely at their own risk, as neither the Federal University Lokoja nor the Vice-Chancellor will be held responsible for any loss arising from such fraudulent dealings.

FUL reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public from online fraud and urged anyone who encounters the fake accounts to ignore them and report such activities to the appropriate authorities.
