FUET Vice Chancellor Delivers Keynote Address at Canadian Pure Bread Institute International Congress in Toronto
Professor Prince Ch. Mmom, JP, DSSRS, FNES, FOHSAssoc, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Environment & Technology (FUET), Ogoni, Rivers State, has showcased his international stature in academia and leadership at the Canadian Pure Bread Institute International Congress & Expo, held at the Grand Toronto Banquet and Convention Centre.
Professor Prince Ch. Mmom, JP, DSSRS, FNES, FOHSAssoc, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Environment & Technology (FUET), Ogoni, Rivers State, has showcased his international stature in academia and leadership at the Canadian Pure Bread Institute International Congress & Expo, held at the Grand Toronto Banquet and Convention Centre.
On August 19, 2025, Prof. Mmom delivered a compelling keynote address on the theme “Institutionalising Occupational Health and Safety Management for Sustainable Development.” He highlighted the importance of risk assessment, prevention, health and safety policies, workplace well-being, training, awareness, and continuous monitoring in driving institutional growth and environmental sustainability. He noted that these measures enhance productivity, reduce the economic impact of workplace accidents, and create safer work environments.

Addressing challenges in developing nations, Prof. Mmom identified limited resources, lack of awareness, and resistance to change as significant barriers. He proposed strong policy frameworks, robust awareness campaigns, and innovative management approaches as solutions.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized that effective OHS systems foster sustainable development by reducing occupational risks, protecting the workforce, and ensuring environmental safety for future generations.

In recognition of his contributions, Prof. Mmom received the prestigious Fellowship of the Institute and a Certificate of Recognition, presented on behalf of the Mayor of the Township of Southgate, Ontario, by Councillor Joan John.
