The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has called on the Lokoja Local Government Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, to take decisive action against rising cases of harassment and intimidation affecting students in host communities.

The appeal was made on April 8, 2026, during a courtesy visit by the council chairman to the Vice-Chancellor at the university’s Felele Campus, where both parties discussed issues relating to security and institutional development.

Prof. Ibileye stressed the urgency of addressing safety concerns for students residing off-campus, urging the local government to strengthen surveillance and intelligence systems, while working closely with security agencies, including the Department of State Services, to identify and prosecute offenders.

He noted that ensuring a secure environment is critical to sustaining academic activities and maintaining the institution’s reputation, adding that stronger collaboration between the university and host communities is essential.

Earlier, the council chairman commended the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership, describing his early tenure as impactful and forward-driven. He reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to supporting the university, citing ongoing cooperation between both institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor also called for broader stakeholder involvement, urging residents and indigenes to contribute to the university’s development as it works to strengthen its position within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
